The Magic Club

Although most of the movie was filmed on location in New York and New Jersey, the scenes of The Magic Club and The Diner were set designs.

  7. I've done some research and found the answer at last. The exterior of the Magic Club was shot outside the Audubon Ballroom, in the Washington Heights neighborhood of uptown Manhattan. It was located on Broadway at 165th st. They dressed the front of the building somewhat, with the Magic Club sign, etc.

Interestingly, this was the building where Malcolm X was assassinated.

In the nineties, most of the building was demolished to make way for a business centre, but thanks to protests, the developers did end up keeping part of the original building's facade and incorporating it into the new building. This includes the rather grand pillars that are visible in the film.

  8. the re-modeled Audubon Ballroom as stated above. Look at the detailing on the center pillars.
